A Louisville woman died Tuesday afternoon in a crash on Alcoa Highway.
Rachell Carrigg, 25, Island Home Road, Louisville, was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of Alcoa Highway from Wheeler Road at about 5:11 p.m. when she collided with another driver.
Jessica Cruze, 30, Greenfern Trail, Seymour, was in the left northbound lane. The impact of the crash sent Carrigg's vehicle, a 1998 Plymouth Neon, to the shoulder of Alcoa Highway's southbound lane.
Carrigg had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Cruze's vehicle, a 2006 Honda Civic, remained partially in the median, blocking southbound traffic in the left lane.
Both drivers were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Carrigg succumbed later to injuries from the crash at the hospital.
Cruze's condition was not available at press time.
Authorities closed Alcoa Highway's southbound lanes while the cars were removed from the highway.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Alcoa police officers.
