GREENEVILLE — A retired East Tennessee elementary school principal has been arrested after police say he visited a motel for what he believed would be a sexual encounter with a child.
Joseph Wayne Jennings of New Tazewell was arraigned Thursday in U.S. District Court at Greeneville on charges of attempting to entice a minor for sex and child pornography.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported the 53-year-old Jennings retired in 2007 as principal of Clairfield Elementary School and works as a part-time sales clerk for a Toys R Us store in Knoxville.
Authorities arrested Jennings at a Morristown motel and said he had cameras to record an encounter.
It was arranged by a detective who chatted online, posing as the single mother of an 8-year-old girl.
