Summary

The Monroe County 4-H Scholastic Clay Target Program team, including several Blount County members, participated in the SCTP State Championship Shoot in May at the Montgomery County Shooting Complex in Southside. The young shooters received numerous trophies in the competition.

To get involved

The Monroe County 4-H Scholastic Clay Target Program will hold its Fourth Annual Fun Shoot for adults and youth beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at Chilhowee Sportsman's Club, LLC, 7601 Old Railroad Bed Road, Maryville. Lunch will be served. Competitions are in five different divisions, with two-person teams. Cost is $65. For additional information, call 856-0565 or 681-8815. All proceeds will assist the Monroe County 4-H SCTP with expenses for the SCTP National Sporting Clay and Skeet tournament July 22-26 in Sparta, Ill.

Youth shooters target big wins at state competition

The Monroe County 4-H Scholastic Clay Target Program team participated in the SCTP State Championship Shoot in May at the Montgomery County Shooting Complex in Southside. The team is made up of youth shooters from Blount County, Seymour, Athens, Sweetwater and Madisonville. Coaches are Tony Milsaps, who is also a state director of sporting clays, J. Larry Meyers, Tim Sellin, Dale Richesin and Don Wood. Team members include Bartley Barr, Chase Boling, Noah Huffstetler, McKinley Montooth, Ben Phillips, Micah Phillips, Lukas Phillips, Krista Richesin, Andrew Sellin, Tianna Sellin, Westley Smith and Dillon Underwood.

The team brought home several trophies in both sporting clays and skeet.

Sporting clays

Varsity, first runner up trophy; team members Westley Smith, of Sweetwater, Lukas Phillips, of Athens, Andrew Sellin, of Madisonville. Smith received a trophy for boy highest overall scorer in this division, shooting 92 out of 100 targets.

Junior Varsity (JV), first runner up trophy; team members Tianna Sellin, of Madisonville, Krista Richesin, of Sweetwater, McKinley Montooth, of Sweetwater. Sellin received a trophy for girl highest overall scorer in this division, shooting 86 out of 100 targets.

Skeet

Junior Varsity (JV), second runner up trophy, team members Tianna Sellin, Lukas Phillips and Westley Smith. Sellin received a trophy for girl highest overall scorer in this division, shooting 85 out of 100 targets.

Intermediate Advanced (IA), first runner up trophy; team members Chase Boling, Dillon Underwood and Noah Huffstetler, of Maryville. Huffstetler received a trophy for boy highest overall scorer in this division, shooting 94 out of 100 targets.

Krista Richesin was selected to the 2009 SCTP All State Team. Twenty SCTP youths from Tennessee are chosen based on their shooting ability, academics and citizenship.

The young shooters will compete in the SCTP National Sporting Clay and Skeet Tournament July 22-26 in Sparta, Ill. To help with expenses, Chilhowee Sportsman's Club LLC, located at 7601 Old Railroad Bed Road, Maryville, is sponsoring the club's Fourth Annual Fun Shoot beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. All proceeds will assist the club with expenses for the trip.
