Joseph Robert Coning
Joseph Robert Coning, age 8, of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. Joseph had just completed the Second Grade at Carpenter's Elementary School. He loved spending time with his twin brother, Jesse, loved to swim and was an avid Veggie Tales fan. He enjoyed reading, collecting movies and being in the Cub Scouts. Joseph had a strong Christian belief and a great love for God. He was a member of Carpenters United Methodist Church. He enjoyed being with his Nana and Papa and his Mamaw and Papaw and meeting new people at the Coning Family Farm Market. Joseph had impeccable manners, he was always polite and was loved by all who met him. He touched people through his smile and his love of life. He was preceded in death by his sister, Abby Coning (six months gestation). Joseph is survived by his parents, Bobby and Nicole Coning of Maryville; twin brother, Jesse Coning; grandparents, Albert and Betty Coning of Maryville and Tom and Sandi Koeshall of Maryville; uncles and aunts, Tim and Regena Koeshall, Billy and Lynn Coning, Rev. Richard and Rev. Tammy Wright, Joel and Beth Vasquez; cousins, Samuel, Hannah, and Miriam Koeshall, Will Coning, Rachel, Rebecca and Sarah Wright, Mary Beth and Jacob Lane, and Andrew Vasquez; and a host of other family and friends who had an impact on Joseph's life. Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, in the Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Richard Wright officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Carpenter's United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Joseph Coning Memorial Fund at any Regions Bank. Ailene Daris Goddard
Ailene Daris Goddard, age 75, of Madisonville, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at home. She was a member of Grandview Baptist Church in Maryville. Ailene and her husband, Truman, owned and operated Architectural Sales Hardware Company in Colorado until retirement in 2000. After 50 years, she moved back home to be near family. Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Truman Goddard on April 8, 2005; parents, Ray C. and Bess Roberts; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Houston and Ruby Goddard. Survivors include three sons, Gary Max Goddard of Madisonville, Charles Ray and wife Ronda of Madisonville, and Chris Alan and wife Kim of Cohutta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Max and Pat Roberts of Vonore; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Rhea and Harold Caldwell of Dandridge and Mary Sue and Joe Smith of Springfield, Mo.; several nieces and nephews complete the family. At the request of Ms. Goddard, there will be no receiving of friends. Family and friends will assemble at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery for a graveside service and interment. Emilee Renee Hall of Maryville passed away Wednesday morning, June 17, 2009, in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Emilee was our bright and shining star for eight glorious days. She taught us the true meaning of joy, love, strength, hope, courage, pain and sorrow. Emilee will never be forgotten, for she will live in our hearts forever. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, William Clark Davis; and great-grandmother, Elsie (Effler) Davis. She is survived by her parents, Kristin Renee Davis and Carl Michael Hall Jr. of Maryville; grandparents, Sam and Robin Lee of Friendsville and Carl Michael Hall Sr. of Maryville; great-grandparents, Leonard and Trula Greene of Friendsville, William T. Browder "Fa-Drew" Hutson, Jr., age 71, of Barnesville, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, in Lamar County. Mr. Hutson was the son of the late Browder Fa-Drew Hutson, Sr., and the late Rosa Jewelle Hutson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Carpenter Hutson. He was a member of the Milner United Methodist Church and a retired Material Planner for Delta Airlines. Mr. Hutson is survived by his son, Browder Jeffery Hutson and wife Young of High Falls, Ga.; daughter, Angela Fa Hutson Farr and husband Michael of Barnesville, Ga.; sister, LaVerne Hutson Duck of Oak Ridge; sister-in-law, Jo Bailes and husband Tim; brother-in-law, Wendell Carpenter and wife Kaye; grandchildren, Jessica Michelle Farr, Drew Michael Farr, Elizabeth Rose Hutson, Tia Ann Hutson, and Laura Jean Hutson; great-grandson, Savory Ike Brown; several nieces and nephews. Jonnie Grace Kagley Lewis
Jonnie Grace Kagley Lewis, age 96, of Knoxville, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at St. Mary's Health System. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church in Knoxville and was preceded in death by her husband, Joe J. Lewis; parents, John W. and Lillie Wilson Kagley; and sisters, Ruth Norwood and Mable Mizell. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Ralph E. Holland of Boone, N.C.; daughter, Kathy Lewis of Nashville; son, Donald W. Lewis of Maryville; former daughters-in-law, Laura McNair and Connie Lewis; eight grandchildren, Jonathan (Kelly) Holland, Timothy (Carrie) Holland, Erin (Matt) Brumm, Jessica (John) Wear, Chaia (Jeff) Thigpen, Leah Manning, Hanna and Jacqueline Lewis; five great-grandchildren, Brianna, Elias and Abigail Holland, Ryan Wear, and Lucas Manning; sister, Pearl Rudder of Louisville, Ky., and brother, Lloyd W. Kagley of Seymour; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lewis was born in Blount County on March 3, 1913, and grew up in the Kagley's Chapel community. She graduated from Lanier High School in 1931, worked at the Standard Knitting Mills in Knoxville, and, during World War II, was employed by ALCOA. She married and raised her family in Maryville, living in later years in Knoxville. Pauline Elizabeth Justice Matthews
Pauline Elizabeth Justice Matthews, age 93, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, at As-bury Place. Born March 28, 1916, the first of 10 children to Lawrence A. and Hattie Isabelle Pollard Justice. In 1937, she married George Wilford Matthews, and they enjoyed 66 loving and devoted years together. MorningView Village was her residence for the last eight years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Maryville. Preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Wilford; sisters, infant Nannie Sue Justice, Virginia Cate, Lois "Noogie" Willocks; brother, L.A. Justice; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Matthews and Rena Huffstettler; brother-in-law, Don Matthews. Survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Tate Paige, Downers Grove, Ill.; Peggy and John Griffitts, Hoschton, Ga.; Brenda Kaye and Stephen Wright, Powell; five grandchildren, Rhonda Paige, Tate (Jody) Paige, Jr. of Illinois, Kimberly (Shannon) Sell and Angie (Joe) Armistead of Georgia, Jenny (Brian) Russell of Knoxville; eight great-grandchildren, Saige, Brynna, and Alexa Armistead, Kate and John Fouts, triplets Brett, Jackson, and Peyton Paige; sisters and brothers-in-law Dot Belt, Mary and Bill Davis, Maxine and Sonny Burnett, Bobbie and John Webb; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mary Justice; sister-in-law, Joann Matthews; brother-in-law, Calvin Willocks; numerous nieces and nephews. Michael E. Tucker
Michael E. Tucker, age 62, of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. He was a graduate of Western Kentucky University, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in Intelligence, he was a pilot and raced hydra planes. He was Methodist, worked for ALCOA in Palestine, Texas, and was a Plant Manager of a small auto parts in Owensboro, Ky. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Edward Tucker. Survivors include his mother, Cathern Payne Tucker; one aunt and several cousins.
