NASHVILLE — The state Department of Safety has terminated an agreement with a contractor that is under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the FBI.

Volunteer Training Center, with offices in Murfreesboro and Chattanooga, had a five-year contract with the state to administer the commercial drivers license skills test. That contract was effective beginning Jan. 1 and would have run though December 31, 2013.

Department spokesman Mike Browning said he could not elaborate on the investigation other than to say that Volunteer did not administer the skills test in accordance with the department's rules and regulations.

The Department will not accept any certificates for testing issued by Volunteer on or after June 21.
