Troy Lee Bowser

Troy Lee Bowser, age 87, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a veteran of the Marines serving in the Pacific during WWII. He retired from the Post Office in 1988 after 39 years of employment. Troy has been an active member of Victory Baptist Church for the past 58 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Minnie Bowser; and brother, John Bowser of Greeneville. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Viola Bowser of Louisville; brother, Kenneth and wife Angelena of Greenville; children, Carolyn and husband Tom Orr of Louisville, and David and wife Ruth Bowser of Cordova; three grandchildren, Carrie Byrd, Hollie Dueker, and Thomas Orr. Four great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009, in the Smith Trinity Chapel with the Rev. Larry Bradley and Rev. Rob Hoffman officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Grandview Cemetery. Vernon Wayne Cagle

Vernon Wayne Cagle, age 80, went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2009. He was a veteran of the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He retired from Robert Shaw Controls. Member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church, where he was an usher, and worked with his wife in the Welcome Center. He is preceded in death by his parents, Deadrick and Grace Cagle; sisters, Faye Lyke and Helen Matheny; brothers, Thomas and Kyle Cagle. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Juanita Best Cagle; daughters, Vicki McDaniel and husband Steve of Maryville, Cheryl West and husband Mike of Corryton; granddaughters, Kim McDaniel of Maryville, and Jessica West Mynatt and husband Dustin of Corryton; stepgrandsons, Kevin and Bryan West; brother, Don Cagle of Oak Ridge; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff on the fifth floor of Blount Memorial Hospital and the caregivers through hospice. Funeral services will be 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Charlie McNutt officiating. The interment service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Alcoa. Gussie B. Croft

Gussie B. Croft, age 86, of Maryville, went to be with her Lord, June 20, 2009, at her home. She was a member of First Church of God of Maryville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Croft; great-grandson, Josh Roberson; and stepgrandson, Roy Howard. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Reba and Gordon Lawson of Maryville; sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Brenda Croft of Maryville and Howard and Mary Croft of Walland; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Rachel Mason of Madisonville; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009, at Miller Funeral Home, Magnolia Chapel, with Rev. Darrell Croft and Rev. Jerry Little officiating. The interment will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Bethel Cemetery in Madisonville. Betty Elizabeth Fuller

Betty Elizabeth Fuller, age 71, of Maryville, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 21, 2009, at U.T. Medical Center. She was of the Baptist faith and was currently a Dietary Cook in the nursing industry with over 40 years of service. She had a genitive love for all the patients that she helped care for. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, and will be deeply loved and missed by all who knew her. Preceded in death by husband, Charles W. Fuller; parents; and nephew, Jack Ditmore. Survivors include children, John Richards and companion Barbara White of Independence, Mo., Elizabeth G. Stinnett of Maryville, Virginia Kay Hawkins and Al of Vonore, Dennis C. Fuller of Maryville, Ronnie Lee Fuller of Maryville, and Carol Ann Lethgo and Brian of Maryville; grandchildren, Betty K. Click and husband Ricky, Timothy C.L. Crisp and wife Mindy, Bobbie Jo Fuller, Charles Fuller and Tommy Fuller; great-grandchildren, Jacob D. Click, Chasity L. Crisp and soon to be Bryson Scott Crisp; sister, Shirley M. Ditmore of Indiana; niece, Debbie McKay. Funeral Service 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in the Smith Trinity Chapel. Blaik H. Hickman

Blaik H. Hickman, April 8, 1952 -- June 19, 2009, Blaik's battle with cancer ended Friday, June 19. He is survived by his wife, Fran; his children, Whitney and Zachary; her children, Debbie Garrett and David Nixon; parents, Ray and Fern Hickman; brother, Frick Hickman and his wife Pam. He is also survived by many dearly-loved family and friends, who made his life wonderful and whom he valued very much. A celebration of his life will be held at the Smithview Pavillion at Smith's Mortuary in Maryville on Monday, June 22. The event will be informal (shirt and shoes required - B.H.), with a gathering of friends beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by a brief ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Respecting Blaik's wishes, his family is requesting donations be made to either Friends of the Smokies or UT Hospice in lieu of flowers.

Deborah Lou 'Debbie' Buchanan King

Deborah Lou "Debbie" Buchanan King, 51, former Columbia resident, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Maryville Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Oakes and Nichols, Columbia, with R. T. Rivers officiating. Burial will follow in Baxter Cemetery in the Hampshire Community. She was born in Minot, N.D., while her father was serving in the U.S. Air Force. The family returned to Tennessee to make their home here until 1974, when they moved to Henderson, Ky., where she graduated from Henderson County High School in 1975. She earned a B.A. degree in communications from Freed-Hardeman University and did graduate work at Maury State University. Mrs. King was a member of Eastside Church of Christ in Maryville. Survivors include her children, Amanda Ruth King (Brian) Baker of Knoxville, Barry Jonathan King of Knoxville, and Catherine Elizabeth King of Maryville; her father and step-mother, Dean and Donna Jean Buchanan of Maryville; aunts and uncles in the local area, Joyce (Glenn) Petty of Columbia, Nancy (Harold) Skidmore of Guntersville, Ala., Lloyd Edward "Rip" (Kay) Baxter, II of Santa Fe, N.M., and David (Debbie) Baxter of Columbia; numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Baxter Buchanan and a brother, Barry Dean Buchanan. Pallbearers are Lloyd E. Baxter, II, Lloyd E. Baxter, III, David Baxter, Tommy Petty, Brent Skidmore, and Kevin Skidmore.

PHILLIPS, MILDRED, 69, Maryville, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Blount Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Smith Funeral and Cremation Service.

Clyde Melvin Tipton

Clyde Melvin Tipton, age 66, of Friendsville, passed away Friday, June 19, 2009, in Rockwood. He was a member of Friendsville United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Myrtle Garland Tipton; and an infant brother, George Lee Tipton. Survivors include his sisters and brothers-in-law, Gail and Walter Dunsmore and Suzann and Bill Boring, all of Maryville; sister, Lucy Jeno of Florida; brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Libby Tipton of Friendsville; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for a graveside service with Rev. William F. "Skip" White, III, officiating.
