Cagle surprised for 80th birthday
Nellie M. Cagle, of Walland, celebrated her 80th birthday with a surprise party given by her children June 6 at the Oak View Club House.
Mrs. Cagle was born June 4, 1929, in Alcoa, to the late Willie and Grace Green. She was married to the late James H. Cagle.
Her family includes children James H. Cagle Jr., Joyce Burton, Carlos Cagle and Mary Lois White, all of Tennessee. She has 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cagle was employed at Blount Memorial Hospital in housekeeping.
She is a member of Cold Springs Church.

Braunstein named to dean's list at Savannah
Jennifer Braunstein, of Maryville, was named to the dean's list at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga. for spring quarter. Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the dean's list.
Braunstein is a sequential art major and is seeking a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
Seaton graduates Lincoln Memorial
Laura Seaton has graduated from Lincoln Memorial University Nursing Program and took her national boards for nursing. She has received her registered nurse status.
She has accepted a position with the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville and will be working with the Labor and Delivery/Women's and Children's Unit.
Byrd makes dean's list
Kristina Byrd, of Maryville, was named to the dean's list with honors at Lee University for spring semester. Students with a semester grade point average of 3.9 higher are eligible.
Byrd is the daughter of Allen and Debbie Byrd and a 2008 graduate of Maryville Christian School.
Rush graduates Freed-Hardeman
Rachel Diane Rush graduated magna cum laude from Freed-Hardeman University in May with a degree in history and a minor in political science. She will attend the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala. in the fall. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Rush, of Maryville.
Adams makes dean's list
Brittany Adams, of Walland, has made the dean's list at Tennessee Wesleyan College for spring semester. Only students attaining a grade point average of 3.4 or higher with no grade lower than a C are eligible.
Adams will be a junior this year and is a member of the volleyball team and Sigma Kappa.
Dodd graduates William & Mary
Hannah Dodd, of Maryville, graduated from the College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Arts degree. The College of William and Mary is a public university in Williamsburg, Va. Founded by Royal Charter in 1693, it is the second oldest college in the country.
Paschel graduates Marist
Geoffrey Ian Paschel, of Greenback, received a Master of Arts in Communication from Marist College. Marist is an independent comprehensive liberal arts college with an enrollment of 4,300 full-time students from 39 states and seven countries, located in Poughkeepsie N.Y.
Military
Caldwell completes basic infantry training
Army Spec. Joseph F. Caldwell graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
He is the son of Marilyn Dorris, of Knoxville and Ron Caldwell, of Maryville.
Caldwell graduated in 2003 from Knoxville Catholic High School and received a bachelor's degree in 2008 from Maryville College.
McReynolds commissioned
Joshua A. McReynolds has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after completing the Air Force ROTC program and graduating with a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
He is the son of William and Tammy McReynolds, of Friendsville. He graduated from William Blount High School in 2005.
Lane completes transition course
Army Pvt. Scott M. Lane has completed the Warrior Transition Course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. The course teaches basic skills needed for integration into the Army for all prior-service service members to fully prepare them for advanced individual training or on to their first assignment.
Lane is the son of Mayford Lane, of Maryville.
