Birthdays: Stevens will celebrate 91st birthday
Clara Inez Stevens, of Alcoa, will celebrate her 91st birthday at 4 p.m. Sunday at her home, 246 W. Stephenson St., Alcoa.
Mrs. Stevens was born June 29, 1918, in Monroe County, to the late Dave and Laura McGhee. She was married to the late Charles R. Stevens.
Her family includes children Willie Brown and Alvin Pride, of Alcoa, Jasper Pride and Charles Pride, of Knoxville, and Mildred Bostic, of Springfield Gardens, N.Y. She has 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Stevens was employed at Dr. Norman McKinnon's office. She attends St. John Baptist Church. She is the matriarch of five generations.
Moore turns 90 on Saturday
Carl Moore, of Seymour, will celebrate his 90th birthday at 6 p.m. Saturday at Courtyard Grill, Alcoa.
Mr. Moore was born June 27, 1919, in Tennga, Ga., to the late James and Arpha Moore. He was married to the late Ada Moore.
His family includes children Pat Rosen, of Lafollette, Dwight Moore, of Heiskell, and Charlene Moore, of Walland. He has six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Moore is retired from ALCOA Inc. and is a member of the retiree club. He is World War II veteran, serving with the United States Navy.
He is a member of Oakview Baptist Church and the Blount County Beekeepers Association.
Friends: Goodson named to list at Elon
Cynthia A. Goodson, daughter of Scott and Sandra Goodson of Maryville, has been named to the president's list for spring semester at Elon University.
The president's list is composed of students who had no grade below an A-minus in a minimum of 12 semester hours.
Goodson is a 2006 graduate of Maryville High School and the 2006 Lamar Alexander Scholarship recipient.
Smith receives scholarship
Margaret Smith, a graduate of Maryville High School has received the Dennis Buford Heath Memorial Scholarship from the Loudon County Education Foundation. Smith plans to attend Middle Tennessee State University.
The late Mr. Heath specified that one scholarship be awarded to a Loudon County student and one to a Blount County student. The Loudon County winner is Janell Menard, of Loudon High School, who will attend Maryville College.
