Kenneth Avery Williams
Kenneth Avery Williams, 58, of Mountain Home, answered God's call home on Jan. 27, 2009. Ken was born in Detroit, Mich., on Nov. 23, 1951, to Benjamin and Betty Williams. He served in the Air Force from 1970-1974 as a jet mechanic, ranked staff sergeant and was stationed in Thakli, Thailand, during the Vietnam War. He was proud and honored to serve his country. He retired from ENSCO Offshore Drilling in 2004, where he served as a chef, cooking being only one of his many passions. He was very talented with a wide variety of interests beyond his culinary skills. From a young age, he exhibited natural abilities in art. Beginning with sketches of cartoon-style drag racers inspired by "Mad" magazine, he soon graduated to oil painting and crafting original works. He always had a passion for playing his guitar and singing with his amazing voice. Like many multi-talented artists of his day, Ken played in a rock band in the 1970s. Ken lived life his way, leaving a mark on everyone's heart that he encountered. His mission was to make everyone smile, an easy task for his quick wit and contagious laughter. He was a proud family man and was happiest when he was surrounded by loved ones. Ken was preceded in death by his mother, Betty W. Taylor; stepfather, Bobby J. Taylor; and brother, Jimmy Taylor. He is survived by his devoted spouse, Konnie Taylor of Maryville; daughter, Tessa Williams Gautreaux and her partner Theresa Wilkinson of Alcoa; stepchildren, James Mainor and Linzie Mainor of Maryville; and his beloved grandmother, Chrissie M. Taylor of Alcoa. Ken also leaves behind his father, Benjamin Williams, of Ideal, Ga.; a brother, Gary Williams of New York, N.Y.; two sisters, Anita Duplantier (fiance Stan Sellers) of Maryville, and Cheryl Honeycutt (husband Bob Honeycutt) of Ideal, Ga.; one nephew, Ryland Paval; one niece, Kerry Jesiel; seven great-nephews and three great-nieces, all of Michigan. He will be sadly missed by many wonderful friends throughout his lifetime. Most recently were those he met while undergoing treatment at the Mountain Home VA Medical Center in Johnson City. He was very proud to call them his friends and family sharing the bond of being a veteran and serving their country together. He and everything he was will never be forgotten. We all were so proud to be his family as he was to be ours. We all love you dearly and miss you more than words can ever say. Ken's life will be celebrated with a memorial at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, on June 27, 2009, at 11 a.m.
