Thirteen-year-old Tanner Lee Jameson collapsed during a basketball game at Eagleton Middle School on Friday and died.
Jameson had played most of the game and "seemed fine," Coach Jerry "Kip" Jones told Blount County Sheriff's Office deputies. Jameson told the coach he didn't "feel good" during the fourth quarter, a BCSO report states. Jones told Jameson to go rest on the bench.
Minutes later, the coach saw Jameson slumped and lying on the floor in front of the bench. The teenager had no pulse, according to Jones. The coach started CPR. Paramedics and deputies responded to the scene, arriving at 2:08 p.m.
The temperature in the gym at the school was "ambient, not excessively hot," according to the report.
Jameson, of Maryville, was pronounced dead at Blount Memorial Hospital at 3 p.m. Friday.
He had no adverse medical conditions or allergies, the report stated. Jameson showed no signs of trauma. The report does not state a cause of death.
"Our heart goes out to that family," said Rob Britt, Blount County director of schools. "The Blount County Schools community is keeping the family in our thoughts and our prayers. We will be here to support them."
Jameson was an active member of Eagleton Middle School baseball and basketball teams. He was also playing for the Blount Storm Traveling Baseball Team.
