Domestic violence

Alcoa

Alcoa police responded at 7:20 p.m. June 26 to a domestic disturbance in the parking lot of an Alcoa business. A 26-year-old resident said he and his 21-year-old girlfriend, same address, had been arguing about church and religious matters all day. The argument escalated at the business and, as they were exiting the parking lot, he hit the rear of another vehicle. He said he stopped the vehicle because it wasn't running well. He alleged he held her by the arm and wrist after parking, preventing her from getting out because he wanted to talk to her. She alleged she was the cause of the argument and the fight and did not want him to be blamed. She refused to give any additional information on the incident, did not appear to have any injuries, and refused medical attention. Witnesses told police that he got out of the vehicle, grabbed her by the arms and behind the neck as they argued in the vehicle. The man was also seen cursing and swearing at her. She allegedly got out, walking away to an open area of the parking lot and sat down. He approached her, grabbed her by the arm, yelled at her to get up, and led her back to the truck, said witnesses. The man was arrested on a charge of domestic violence with simple assault. Police gave the woman a domestic violence/victim's rights packet and advised her of legal options.
