Military: Master Sgt. Cupp retires from Marine Corps

Master Sgt. William S. Cupp is retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps after 20 plus years of service. He has served in numerous war zones including Desert Storm, Somalia, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. His personal awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat action Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. While serving in the Marines, Master Sergeant Cupp earned a B.S. in Business, a Logistics Management Certification from Georgia Tech and a Logistics Executive Certification from Penn State.

He is the son of William and Sally Cupp of Louisville. Cupp is married to Tonya Minge Cupp. They have two daughters- Bailey and Emily.

In honor of his service, all family and friends are invited to a July 4 celebration at 3439 Sevierville Road, starting at noon.

Ellrich receives Marshall award

Shannon M. Ellrich has received the George C. Marshall Award for 2009 during a ceremony at the Marshall Center, Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. The award in named in the honor and legacy of General of the Army George C. Marshall, who served in World War II as the Army Chief of Staff ad in the post-war era served as secretary of state and secretary of defense.

Ellrich is the daughter of Tim R. Ellrich, of White Bluff and Patricia Griffin, of Maryville. She is a 2005 graduate of Maryville High School.

Greene graduates basic with honors

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Broughton T. Greene graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He earned distinction as an honor graduate.

He is the son of Mona Greene, of Maryville and is a 2008 graduate of Maryville High School.

Friends: Eason named to Mississippi St. president's list

Shane L. Eason, of Louisville, has made the president's list at Mississippi State University for the spring semester.

Students on the president's list achieved a 3.8 or better grade point average, based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of course work with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C.

Harris makes dean's list at Mississippi St.

Emilee M. Harris, of Maryville, has made the dean's list at Mississippi State University for spring semester.

Dean's list students achieved a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.79 based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of course work with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C.

Chambers receives award

Leola Chambers, of Maryville, received Roane State Community College's Christine Mills Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement in Nursing.

The award is given in memory of a member of the Roane State nursing faculty.
