Alcoa man in serious condition after car crash

A 30-year-old Alcoa man injured in a car crash on Tuesday is in serious condition at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Joseph L. Hoskins, Harrison Street, Alcoa, was headed north at 8:11 p.m. on Hall Road when he veered off the road and hit a light pole near Associates Boulevard.

The fallen pole blocked both northbound lanes, shutting down traffic in that direction for about 30 minutes. Hoskins' vehicle, a 1993 Thunderbird, was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

Fishing tourney to benefit rescue groups

A fishing tournament will be held Friday night to benefit the rescue groups that spent many hours in the rescue and recovery of Gary Lindsey, who went missing in April in Tellico Lake.

The Gary Lindsey Memorial Firecracker Benefit Tournament will begin at 7 p.m. and will end at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Tellico Parkway Canal Ramp. Weigh in can be done any time after 11 p.m. Green Bank is sponsoring the event.

There is a guaranteed $2,000 1st place award and a 50 percent payback of cash and prizes pays one place for every seven boats. The entry fee is $50 per boat with an optional $10 lunker fee.

Registration is at One Limit Bait Shop in Farragut (966-8087), C&C Outdoors in Louisville (380-5008) or can be done at the ramp on the evening of the event.

THP planning drunk driver crackdown

State troopers will be out in full force during the Fourth of July holiday weekend with a "Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest" enforcement blitz, the Tennessee Department of Safety said Wednesday.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct sobriety and driver license checkpoints across the state.

In Blount County, a driver license checkpoint will be held Sunday afternoon on Old Knoxville Highway at Co-op Road.

Open house for craft store set

The Home Place Soap Showroom and Craft Store in Greenback will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The event features Home Place Goat milk soaps and lotions and locally made crafts at the store on Woods Drive across from the Greenback Fire Department. For more information, call 865-556-2195.
