SMALL BUSINESS WORKSHOP

The Blount County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a workshop on the America's Recovery Capital (ARC) loan program that is designed to give viable small businesses suffering immediate financial hardship some temporary financial relief so they can keep their doors open and get their cash flow back on track. Viable means the business is an established, for-profit business with evidence of profitability or positive cash flow in at least one of the past two years. An ARC loan is a deferred-payment loan of up to $35,000 to be used for principal and interest payments on existing, qualifying debt/loans. Presenters: Tim Brew, of Areawide Development Corp., and Jacqueline Merritt, of the Small Business Administration. The workshop will be held from 7:30-9 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, at the Blount County Chamber of Commerce, 201 Washington St., Maryville. To register, RSVP to kdelozier@blountchamber.com or call 983-2241. There is no cost to attend, but there is limited seating. For more information about ARC go to www.sba.gov.

FINANCIAL COFFEE CLUB

Todd Mills, an Edward Jones financial advisor, will be hosting a coffee club at 9 a.m. July 10 and on the second Friday each month at 208 Simmons St., Maryville. The coffee club is an informal gathering in which Edward Jones financial advisors provide an update on the stock market and the economy in a relaxed environment.

NACO CONFERENCE

More than 2,800 county officials from across the country will meet July 24-28 at the National Association of Counties' (NACo) 74th annual Conference and Exposition at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville to address economic recovery and issues affecting local governments and communities. The effective implementation of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, which contains billions of dollars to help support county services and programs, will be the top focus of the conference.
