Obama qualities greatly admired

Dear Editor:
President Barack Obama has had my respect and admiration from the beginning of his campaign for the presidency. My admiration has increased since he took office — primarily because he is trying his best to fulfill his campaign promises while simultaneously having to fight opposition.
Cyril Connely expressed my feelings more elegantly in an article, "The Thin Man" in Nation magazine in November 2008. I want to share some of his remarks with The Daily Times' readers. "Obama is an almost preternaturally gifted political man — a kind of Mozart of politics. He seems to possess many elements of stature, even of greatness. His reputation for decency is unblemished ... He is intellectually agile. He is a writer and speaker of eloquence and originality. He inhabits degraded public realm with grace. He is an outstanding judge of people and circumstances." Are we as a country not blessed to have such a leader at this crucial time in our history?
Ernest Bowers in his Letter to the Editor (June 22, 2009) also reminded me of another great quality President Obama possesses. His proclamation declaring the month of June as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month demonstrates the fact he is open-minded and desires to follow the example of Christ to love all people -- even those who are "different."
I find it difficult to understand why everyone does not support "The Thin Man" in his efforts to preserve our freedom, unite us, and get us out of the economic quagmire we are in. It is obvious the President is doing his part. Will we all do our part?
