Greenback youth team advances
The Greenback Dixie Youth Baseball 7-8 Coach Pitch team, has earned its third straight trip to state, having won the districts in Madisonville and the substate rounds at Greenback.
Cherokee 9U wins state title
Over the past two weeks, the Cherokee Baseball Academy 9U team won the USSSA Knoxville area SubState Championship and the Tennesseee State Championship. Cherokee defeated Knoxville Yard, 15-1, for the substate title after winning three of four games -- 15-8 over Concord, 16-8 over Knoxville Stars, 7-6 over the Bulldawgs, dropping only a single contest, 15-4 to the Knoxville Thunder.
Cherokee dropped the opener of the state round, 10-9 to the Boro Bombers, but came back with four straight wins, including a 13-9 victory over East Tennessee Select for the title. Cherokee also defeated the Bulldawgs, 11-6, the Boro Bombers (in a rematch), 10-2, and Colonial Heights, 6-5.
Team members are Tharrin Shuler, Max McBrayer, Justin Sailors, Damien Love, Ryan Odom, Cade Bochtler, Luke Bagwell, Griffin Livesay, Logan Rogers, Joseph Ridenour, Jerron Henry and Ian Raines. Coaches are Jimmy McBrayer, Greg Livesay, Jeff Ridenour and Jody Sailors.
Flying Dolphins take meet win
The Maryville Alcoa Flying Dolphins swim team love competing at Springbrook Pool. The Benington Farrington Barracudas visited Springbrook this past Tuesday, June 30. As soon as the meet started, the Flying Dolphins took an early lead and never looked back. The Dolphins went on to win the meet 406-319, and swam its record to 4-0 on the season.
"I am proud of our swimmers' accomplishment. A lot of hard work was evident with the team's success," said coach Jeff Knox. "The two teams worked together well to swim in a meet which taught the swimmers sportsmanship, focus, and athleticism."
The first place finishers for the Dolphin's include: Emily Freeny, Drew Willoughby, Taiga Ikeguchi, Logan Graumann, Zeke Carnes, Summer Brown, Ryan Burcham, Ali Sherrill, Ethan Hathcock, Anna Grace Ford, Mallory Gardner, Sam Tingle, Bailey Carnes, Eli Tate, Mikaela Smith, Joshua vanderVeen, Lexy Thompson, Stephanie Barbo, Case DeWaard, Colleen Riley, Skyler Rader, Sarah Walker, Zach Tate. The relay winners include: Drew Willoughby, Dillan McDade, Cameron Wolford, Ethan Hathcock, Jenna McCormack, Emma Hendrix, Marianna Harper, Anna Grace Ford, Garrett Graumann, Kevin Riley, Michael Diemer, Zach Tate, Stephanie Young, Cassidy Heaton, Haven Spanyer, Olivia Knoll, Karly Wolford, Emily Freeny, Bailey Carnes, Ali Sherrill, Zoe Topor, Maho Kyuragi, Emma Hendrix, Skyer Rader, Isaac Keller, Lexy Thompson, Cassandra Knapp and Summer Brown.
The Flying dolphins are now tied for first with the Gettysbue Gliders in League 2 of the Greater Knoxville Area Interclub Swimming Association. The team's next meet is against Gettysvue on July 14 at Springbrook Pool to decide the league champion. The meet begins at 6 p.m.
