Fire destroyed a Townsend residence and damaged an adjacent residence on Friday.

The Townsend Volunteer Fire Department responded to 422 Rudd Hollow Road at 6:50 p.m. Friday and cleared the scene two hours later.

A 76-year-old woman and her six-year-old great-granddaughter were able to get out of the residence, which is a single wide trailer with an addition, according to Don Stallions, TVFD Chief.

"It's going to be a total loss," Stallions said.

Rural/Metro Ambulance Service was called to the scene, but no one had to be taken to the hospital.

No one was reported injured.

Firefighters don't know the cause of the blaze. The Blount County Sheriff's Office will investigate the cause of the fire, he indicated.

The fire did "minor damage" to an adjacent residence at 420 Rudd Hollow Road, Stallions said. The TVFD had five trucks on the scene as well as 15 firefighters.
