Announcements for July 5

Announcements run each Sunday. Announcements should be e-mailed to sports@thedailytimes.com or faxed to The Daily Times at 865-981-1175. They may also be dropped off at the mail slot on the side of The Daily Times building or at the front desk during regular business hours. Notices must arrive by the Thursday before they are to run on Sunday.

Baseball

Maryville High School will be holding tryouts for the baseball team on July 15, 16, and 17. Players should wear baseball uniforms and report to Maryville College. Upcoming 9th and 10th graders will tryout from 9 to 11 a.m., 11th and 12th graders from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call coach Gaylor at 414-0336 for further information.

William Blount High School will hold its 2009 baseball camp at 6:30 p.m. July 14 and 16 at the William Blount High School baseball fields. The camp is for ages 10 and over and costs $50. Former William Blount baseball All-Region and All-District players John Garland, Daniel Holden, Eric Loy and Justin Young will be on hand to help out Governors coach Charlie Puleo. Heritage High School will host its annual baseball camp Monday through Thursday. The camp, which is open to kindergarteners through rising eighth-graders, will be held each day from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Heritage's baseball field. The cost is $50. Regstration is from 7:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m on Monday, the camp's first day. T-shirts will be provided for all participants. Basketball

The William Blount Boys Basketball Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The camp is open to all student athletes entering the third through the ninth grade. The camp will be conducted by the William Blount High School coaching staff, area middle school coaches and current and former William Blount players. Each athlete will receive detailed fundamental instruction, participate in two games a day (with a tournament on Thursday) and receive a camp shirt. A concession stand will be open for lunch and other designated times. Awards will be given to league and tournament winners as well as individual contest winners. Registration will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. Monday. Cost on this day is $70. For more information contact coach David Baumann by cell at 604-7401.

HoopItUp Basketball Academy will offer the following summer camps for area players. Register online at www.orgsites.com/tn/hoopitup or by email at hoop itup1@ymail.com or via phone at 865-684-9313. Dates and info are as follows: July 16 and 17 Guard Skills Camp, girls only, grades 6-12, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Bring sack lunch. Drinks and snacks available for purchase at camp site. Cost $45.

A summer basketball team is looking for two girls currently in fifth or sixth grade to fill its roster. If interested, please call 865-804-2758.

Cheerleading

The Southside Eagles Cheerleading teams are now accepting new sign-ups, ages 5 through 15. The only fee that we have is what you pay for your uniform. All practices are at Lanier Elementary, kids from other counties are welcome and games are played throughout Blount County. For more information please call 856-0240.

Football

The Southside Eagles football team will be signing new players. We have positions open for all three teams, which are, 7-8 year old Grasshopper, 9-10 year olds PeeWee, and 11-12 year olds Midgets. Fees are $60. All practices are at Lanier Elementary and games are played throughout Blount County. Kids from other counties are welcome. Fall practice begins July 20. Golf

The Alcoa High School athletic department golf tournament will be held on July 18 at Egwani Farms. Tee time is 2 p.m. The format is four-man swat.

Tryouts for the Maryville High golf teams will be held on July 14 and July 16 at Green Meadow Country Club, 4 p.m. each day. For any questions about the tryouts, contact coach Tom Stinnett, 310-8606.

The Maryville College Football program is accepting participant registration for their sixth annual Kickoff Golf Tournament at Royal Oaks Golf Course on Saturday, July 25. An $80 fee covers greens fees, cart and lunch. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by a catered lunch at Noon. Coach Tony Ierulli will provide a preseason look for friends and families in attendance at 12:30. A shotgun start will begin at 1 p.m., followed by an awards ceremony and social at 5:30. Tryouts for the William Blount High School (grades 9-12) boys and girls golf teams will be held July 13 at Royal Oaks Golf Course. Potential players are to be at the pro shop, for an organizational meeting, at 4:30 p.m. Nine holes of play will begin at 5 p.m. Participants are to follow the Royal Oaks dress code. Tryouts are not for beginning/first time players.

Gymnastics

Gymnastics Counts will be hosting several camps this summer -- there will be crafts, games, and gymnastics -- no experience necessary. The dates for these camps are July 13-17 and July 20-24. Times will be 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. with early drop-off and late pick up available for an extra fee. Please call Gymnastics Counts for more details, 856-5339.

Soccer

Tryouts for the Maryville Middle School girls soccer team will consist of the following components: TIMED MILE RUN -- This will be held at the MMS track on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 9 a.m., and Saturday, Aug. 15 at 9 a.m. In order to make the team, the player must run a mile in eight minutes or less. There will be two sessions held in order for the player to run. If one successfully makes the time in the first session, she does not have to attend the second run unless she would like to do so. TRYOUT SESSIONS -- There will be two tryout sessions. These will be held at the MHS soccer field located at John Sevier Elementary from 6-7:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, and Tuesday, Aug. 11. Softball

The SEAA 6th annual World Series Warmup at Pigeon Forge will be July 17-19 for youth girls 8u coach pitch and 10u through 19u fast pitch. Call 865-995-0560 or 865-599-4981 for more information.
