KNOXVILLE — Knox County authorities say a fire that gutted a 131-year-old church this week was intentionally set. Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Martha Dooley said Friday that investigators determined a back door at Harris Chapel Baptist Church had been forced open and a fire was started in the sanctuary.
The blaze early Wednesday destroyed the sanctuary and the fellowship hall at the church in the southern part of the county.
