KINGSTON — One Roane County brother has been sent to jail and the other has been sent home until they can both be retried in the shooting deaths of a sheriff’s deputy and his passenger.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported that Special Judge David Hayes on Friday ordered Rocky Joe Houston taken into custody for violating the terms of his release and set his new bond at $500,000.

Later, the judge ruled Leon Houston could remain on unmonitored house arrest for now.

The Houstons are awaiting retrials in the 2006 shootings of Deputy Bill Jones and former officer Mike Brown. Leon Houston’s first trial ended in a hung jury. Rocky Houston’s trial failed to reach a verdict in the deputy’s death and acquitted him in Brown’s death.
