The eight-mile section of Little River Road in Great Smoky Mountains National Park that was closed on Friday because of a rock slide reopened Tuesday evening.
The slide was located about two miles west of the Elkmont campground junction. The affected section of road was located between this junction and Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area.
The road had been blocked since last Friday by a rock slide. Park managers initially estimated that the slide might produce 30 dump truckloads of rock before the slope was stabilized, but eventually 60 to 70 loads came down before the area was safe for travel.
