The Blount County Sheriff's Office has opened to the public its firing range at the BCSO's training facility on two dates in September and October.

The public range days are being offered to individuals interested in honing their shooting skills in preparation for the upcoming hunting season. Only rifles will be permitted.

The public range days will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on two consecutive Saturdays, Sept. 26 and Oct. 3. Participants must be 18 or older and will be required to bring their own rifles and ammunition.

The firing range is located at the BCSO Training Facility on Honeysuckle Road, off County Farm Road in West Blount County. The state-of-the-art, covered firing range has 21 lanes with a turning target system. The Sheriff's Office partnered with the Air National Guard in 2008 to upgrade the firing range, making it one of the most advanced training range complexes in East Tennessee.

Individuals interested in using the range on either open range date should RSVP to Training Assistant Jennifer Harrington at 865-273-5122 no later than Sept. 18.
