Jeffrey Scott Long, who is charged in connection with the death of his wife, made an initial appearance in Blount County General Sessions court Monday.
Judge William R. Brewer scheduled Mr. Long’s preliminary hearing for Oct. 19 at 1:30 p.m.
Long is charged with criminal homicide and especially aggravated burglary.
Wearing chains on his feet and gray and white striped shirt and pants, Long told the judge he couldn’t make his $525,000 bond.
Brewer told him a lawyer would be appointed to defend him.
Janas Long, 57, was found dead in a large pool of blood on Sept. 10 in her Louisville apartment on Cerritos Way, according to a police report. There was a history of domestic violence between the couple, police said.
