Five unique homes in Tellico Village will be featured in the GFWC Tellico Village Women's Club's 14th Annual Home Tour Sunday. Tellico Village is located on Route 444, south of Lenoir City off Highway 321 or east of Loudon on Highway 72, then north on Route 444.
The home tour is the organization's major fundraiser and all proceeds help support various local and designated international charities, including Kids First Child Advocacy Center, Domestic Abuse Violence Prevention, Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding (STAR), Loudon County Schools and a variety of elder and children's charities. GFWC Tellico Village Women's Club is a part of the international and Tennessee General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC), the world's largest and oldest nonpartisan, nondenominational volunteer service organization.
In addition to the Home Tour this year, the Woman's Club will be selling a panoramic 2010 calendar that contains scenic pictures from Tellico Village for $10. All photos were taken by residents in Tellico Village. A combination package is available and includes one Home Tour ticket and one calendar for the special price of $20.
The homes featured on the 2009 Annual Home Tour include:
Home of Sue and Al Czachowski, 208 Tuscarora Lane
Visitors to this home are greeted by European exterior columns, baluster railings over the curved entry porch, stone front and formal topiaries. A two-story vaulted ceiling and unique inner dome enclosing the chandelier will have all eyes turning upward. Don't miss the study to the right that converts the guest room with a built-in Murphy bed system. The dining room to the left of the entry has a distinctive oval tray ceiling framed in dark wood with an oval medallion setting off the chandelier. The sage green kitchen leads to the screened porch which overlooks a waterfall and stream that tumbles down to the lake. The lower level family room serves as a bar, game room, shuffleboard room and sitting area.
Home of Steve Gines, 130 Cayuga Drive
The Charleston-style exterior of this home is infused with Southern charm and provides a warm welcome to the eclectic and elegant interior. The Corinthian columns that delineate the exterior spaces, the hardwood floors and the classic moldings all provide a formal air to the home.
Steve combined his favorite furniture pieces from several periods with his art collection and treasures brought back from world travels, juxtaposing contemporary with traditional and informal with old world luxury. A long granite topped entertainment island anchors the kitchen since cooking is another of Steve's hobbies. This space adjoins the warming room and links the kitchen to the sitting area/breakfast spot with its stacked stone fireplace. Clever landscaping affords privacy from the golf course.
Home of Jim and Karen Keirstead, 212 Coyatee View
This home's exterior has a traditional facade sporting white, Tuscan-styled columns and a roof line broken by three dormers. The time-honored interior is inspired by Southern Living's "Crabapple Cottage." A classic floor medallion inlaid in the wood floor delineates the entry. The sculpted Chinese rug anchors the Ming styled dining room and sets the color tones in the arched, built-in cupboards and display shelves that house mementos from world travels. The open living area leads to a tropical sun porch where the inspiration piece was the floral chandelier that gives the room its personality and color scheme. The color scheme in the kitchen and the island's granite stems from the Italian ceramics and matching tiles that Karen and Jim carried home from Italy.
Home of Julie Sohns and Mark Croswell, 205 Kawatuska Lane
The American Craftsman or Arts & Crafts style, typified by the natural elements of stone and hand-worked wood, give this home's exterior and interior its inspiration. Earth tones, tree and leaf motifs are prominent in artwork and fabrics. Window seats and other built-ins in the dining room and in closets streamline and functionalize without the need for cumbersome furniture. Julie and Mark have chosen hardware, lighting, cabinets, flooring and woodwork in accordance with this Craftsman style. Sinks are all hand-hammered copper with oil rubbed bronze fixtures. The gas fireplaces are also copper fronted. The upper level is Julie's extensive art studio. Skylights and a large window/door combination lead to a private outdoor balcony, bringing in plenty of natural light for her work. The space is divided into metal working, wool and fabric dying and sewing areas besides the sitting area. The lower level effectively combines guest rooms and bath with a cozy family room.
Home of Pat and Jim Smith, 167 Chuniloti Way
Contemporary design exemplifies the Smith's lake side residence with wood floors and heavy rustic wooden ceiling beams. A brick wall is central to the living areas but the newly opened spaces are airy and lighted by the expanded windows on the lake side that overlook the pool and waterfall. Built in entertainment equipment is housed behind the brick wall in the sunken living room. The much-used porch has heated floors and is propane heated for all-weather comfort. Automated screens allow for bug-free enjoyment and lake breezes. The walls on the mahogany stairway leading to the lower level feature a custom mural showing the lake and mountains combined with a Tuscan scene fulfilling both Pat's and Jim's visions. A kitchenette services the pool room, guest areas and a "Wii Room" with a minimum of furnishings so games can be played without obstructions.
