The Tennessee Aeronautics Commission has approved $855,000 in grants for McGhee Tyson Airport to assess communications capabilities and to improve drainage.
The funds are available through the Tennessee Department of Transportation's Aeronautics Division, Gov. Phil Bredesen's office announced Monday.
A consulting firm will study the airport's communications system, said Becky Huckaby, Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority spokeswoman,
"Consultants make an assessment of the entire communications infrastructure -- determining the location of everything, seeing if there's some way to make the infrastructure stronger, and making recommendations to improve it," Huckaby said.
