A fire at 10:51 a.m. today damaged the den of Rob and Judy Angley's home on Morganton Road and smoke damage was reported throughout the house.

Rodney Shore and his father, Ed, were driving by and noticed the fire. Rodney Shore said the front door was too hot to open so he went around the back of the house.

Rodney Shore said he kicked out the glass of the back door and used a water hose to extinguish the fire in the den.

While the fire was confined to the den, “there's a lot of smoke damage,” Ed Shore said.

Rodney Shore said a chair burned up in the den and a ceiling fan fell down.

Blount County and Greenback Fire Departments and the Blount County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.

Firefighters were using large fans to blow the smoke out of the two-story white house.
