"The Skinny on Fat -- Obesity in People and Pets" is the topic of a Maryville College science literacy seminar set for 7 p.m. Oct. 22 in Lawson Auditorium at Maryville College's Fayerweather Hall.
Dr. Joseph Bartges, professor of medicine and nutrition at the University of Tennessee, will discuss obesity in pets with comparisons to humans, including pathophysiology and treatment of obesity.
The MC Science Literacy Seminar Series arose from faculty-student dialogue on culturally relevant science topics and is designed to quell the illusion that science is inaccessible to nonscientists. Organized by the college's chapter of the American Chemical Society, the seminar is free and open to the public.
