Walland man indicted on kidnapping, assault and burglary charges

A Blount County grand jury returned eight true bills Monday, including an indictment of a man accused of kidnapping a Friendsville woman and holding her at gunpoint for nearly 12 hours.
Mark Wesley Givler, 51, Rocky Branch Road, Walland, was indicted Monday on charges of especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, and two counts of aggravated burglary.
According to information from the Blount County Sheriff's Office at the time of the incident, the woman told deputies that Givler broke into her home between 9:30-10 p.m. July 8, attempted to tie her to a chair and held a gun to her throat. Givler was identified by authorities as the woman's estranged boyfriend.
Also indicted by the grand jury:
-- Richard Rhinehart Pierce, 34, Decatur, initiation of a process intended to result in the manufacture of methamphetamine, promotion of the manufacture of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, from a July 14 incident.
-- Steven W. Bragg, 55, Wales Avenue, Maryville, driving under the influence of an intoxicant and violation of the implied consent statute, from a May 17, 2008, incident.
-- Tommy Oliver, 46, Tammy Circle, Rockford, violation of the habitual motor offender's act, from a March 26, 2005, incident.
-- Ricky Allen Cromwell Jr., 26, Rudd Hollow Road, Townsend, two counts of aggravated assault from a May 28 incident.
-- Charles Franklin Thatcher, 46, Doug Gap Road, Louisville, domestic assault from a Dec. 27, 2008, incident.
-- Perry R. Henley, 48, Knoxville, felony evading arrest from a May 15 incident.
-- John Russell Walker, 23, Knoxville, possession of a Schedule II substance (cocaine) for resale from a April 13 incident.
The grand jury also returned 15 sealed indictments and one no bill.
