CHATTANOOGA -- A city panel has upheld the firing of a Chattanooga policeman who was previously suspended for shoving down a 71-year-old Wal-Mart store greeter.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that the City Council panel Monday upheld the firing of former police Officer Ralph Kenneth Freeman.
The panel said Police Chief Freeman Cooper acted appropriately in terminating Freeman for untruthfulness, conduct unbecoming an officer, consuming alcohol while armed and carrying an unauthorized firearm.
Freeman's attorney, Ben Reese, asked the panel to consider the former officer's 15-year history with the department.
Freeman was fired less than a year after he was suspended 28 days without pay after an altercation with a greeter at the Wal-Mart store in Collegedale.
