ISLAMORADA, Fla. -- A Maryville man was reportedly found dead Tuesday after apparently drowning while diving four miles east of Rodriguez Key, Fla.
Coast Guard search-and-rescue coordinators at Sector Key West, Fla., received the initial report at 2:30 p.m. from the Coral Princess I. They reported locating an unconscious diver, identified as 67-year-old Larry Reeves, who had been aboard the dive vessel Amoray while it was operating near the Benwood wreck dive site.
Coral Princess I crew members brought the unconscious diver aboard and off-duty Army and Navy medical personnel aboard the Coral Princess I began administering CPR.
Upon receipt of the report, Coast Guard immediately responded by launching a Station Islamorada small-boat crew with local EMS members aboard.
The off-duty Army and Navy medical personnel performed CPR for approximately 20 minutes but Reeves did not show any signs of life.
The Coast Guard small-boat crew escorted both the Coral Princess I and the Amoray to the Port Largo Marina where Coast Guard marine casualty investigators and deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office were waiting to initiate investigations into the incident.
