A groundbreaking ceremony for the new $8 million Squadron Operations Building at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base will be held at 8:30 p.m. Monday.
The Department of Defense awarded McGhee Tyson funding to construct the new building to meet U.S. Air Force standards for operations per allotted aircraft.
The new building will house the 151st Refueling Squadron with facilities for life support, survival equipment and daily mission accomplishment. The 151st Squadron flies the KC-135R Stratotanker as part of the 134th Air Refueling Wing.
C2RL Inc. and Hickory Construction Inc., both of Alcoa, are contracted to build the structure. The 134th Civil Engineering Squadron is coordinating with the contractors.
The scheduled completion date for the new facility is June 12, 2011.
