The Heritage team that knocked Catholic from the state's top 10 played Jekyl and Hyde Friday, mounting an ill-fated comeback after spotting West a 32-point lead in the first half and falling 39-22 at Jack Renfro Stadium.
The Rebels (4-6, 3-4 District 4-AAA) held on late as Heritage broke from the half with a new plan and new look, abandoning the run game between the 20s, choosing instead to allow Tyler Harley to air it out.
Hartley, who ended the night 11-of-30 for 239 yards, gathered 187of those yards after half, finding Clayton Shell and Tyler Edmonds for a series of big connections.
Inside the 20, West Point commitment Michael Cermak was an Army of One for Heritage, scoring all three Mountaineer touchdowns from the Mustang Michael package and tacking on a pair of 2-point conversion runs.
