KNOXVILLE -- The Tennessee football team celebrated Halloween by taking the field in black jerseys and orange pants to face No. 21 South Carolina on Saturday night at Neyland Stadium.

The fashion statement -- heresy to some traditional fans and a sign of a new era for others -- scared the Gamecocks into three early turnovers that resulted in UT scores, which turned out to be the difference in the 31-13 outcome of the game.

"It's a player's game and our players have been begging for them (black jerseys) for a while," Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin said. "A few players asked (athletic director) Mike Hamilton about it, and I was surprised he was able to do it so quickly. I think it gave us some energy. I think you saw the energy they had coming out."
