Summary

The Maryville Rebels (9-1) had no complaints about receiving a No. 2 seed in one of Class 6A's four eight-team quadrants and a first-round home game against No. 7 seed Dobyns-Bennett (5-5). The five-time defending state champion Tornadoes (10-0), on the other hand, earned one of four No. 1 seeds in Class 3A, as expected, but were left scratching their heads about the quirkiness of a format that gave them a postseason opener at home against sixth-seeded Tyner Academy (6-4).

The selection process for the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association's football playoffs didn't go exactly as planned Saturday morning.

Flawed postseason brackets were announced on a statewide radio broadcast and corrected several hours later, leaving coaches and administrators with mixed feelings about their first experience with a six-classification playoff system.

It was no different for Maryville and Alcoa.

The Rebels (9-1) had no complaints about receiving a No.

All first-round playoff games will be played at 7 p.m. Friday.
