In its eighth year, the Run for Education is getting a new identity while maintaining its goal to provide educational support in all 21 Blount County Schools.
Now known as the Clayton Homes Turkey Trot for Education, the race will take flight at 3 p.m. on Nov. 22.
The Blount County Education Foundation (BCEF) secured Clayton Homes as a title sponsor for the race and has launched an effort that will cast a wider net in attracting runners and walkers. With the course certified by USA Track and Field, the race gains credibility among serious runners.
"Each 5K runner will be given a timing chip to accurately clock their run," said race director Margie Kidd. "Our goal is to promote health and fitness throughout the community so the event includes a one mile Fun Run/Walk to appeal to everyone."
3 Cubicles Down will provide live musical entertainment and there will be door prizes and food for participants.
The certified 5K course begins and ends at Clayton Homes Corporate Headquarters on Clayton Road in Maryville.
Registration forms are available at all Blount County schools, the Central Office, Blount Memorial Wellness Center and can be downloaded from the Knoxville Track Club Website www.ktc.org. Deadline for preregistration is Nov. 16. Late registration for the race begins at 1 p.m. Nov. 22 at Clayton Homes Corporate Headquarters. The race begins at 3 p.m. The awards ceremony will be held immediately following the race.
