The Maryville High School football team is back on top.

The Rebels (9-1) climbed to No. 1 in Class 6A in the final Associated Press prep poll released Monday, capitalizing on a regular season-ending loss by previously unbeaten Ooltewah, which held the top spot for the past five weeks.

Alcoa (10-0), which finished off its first perfect regular season since 2000 with a 24-7 win Friday at No. 4 Christian Academy of Knoxville, went wire to wire at No. 1 in the Class 3A rankings.

Maryville, one of four No. 2 seeds in the 6A playoffs, received 11 of 18 first-place votes coming off a 27-14 victory Friday at Lenoir City.

It's the first No. 1 ranking of the season for the Rebels, who lost their opener at rival Alcoa after having their state-record 74-game winning streak snapped by Hillsboro in last year's Class 4A state championship.

The five-time defending state champion Tornadoes once again retained the top spot in Class 3A and were No. 1 on 17 of 18 ballots. No. 2 Milan (10-0), which lost to Alcoa in last year's Class 2A state title game, picked up the other first-place vote.
