Alcoa City Commission approved funding for street improvements to make way for two new restaurants in Hamilton Crossing.

Groundbreaking for the new Olive Garden Restaurant in Alcoa is expected to take place in one or two weeks.

Once work gets under way, the construction is expected to take six months, Alcoa City Manager Mark Johnson told a called meeting of the commission Monday.

The body approved bonds that will assure that Hamilton Crossing Drive be completed to Bessemer Street in front of K-mart in time for the opening of Olive Garden and Cheddar's restaurants. Bonds will also assure site work is completed on time by the developer, Jay Dunlap.

Cheddar's, which is also locating on Hamilton Crossing Drive, is on about the same timetable as Olive Garden, Johnson said. They would open around May 2010.
