Murrell Brothers Tire and Uniroyal Tire have contributed more than $1,232 in funds and equipment to Maryville-Alcoa-Blount County Parks and Recreation.
The ongoing commitment is part of the Uniroyal Soccer Program founded in 2000. The program has provided nearly $12 million in funds and equipment, including nearly 1 million soccer balls, to youth soccer organizations across the country.
"This program is about making lasting relationships in the community and supporting our local youth," said Jim Murrell, of Murrell Brothers Tire. "Contributing to Maryville-Alcoa-Blount County Parks and Recreation through a larger youth movement gives us a great sense of accomplishment. The program is an opportunity to connect with the community, and we are delighted to see the players' smiling faces when they receive their soccer ball."
The company started with 200 dealers and has expanded to five times that size.
To commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the program, Uniroyal is also giving away a soccer ball every day in 2009. Daily winners will be entered into the Soccer Season Survival Giveaway for a grand prize that includes a $500 gasoline card, set of tires, GPS system, video recorder and more.
