KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee brought preparations for Memphis to a close on Thursday, but the news out of practice was the rumor of a possible suspension of freshman starting safety Janzen Jackson.
Following the afternoon workout, UT coach Lane Kiffin addressed the rumor -- sort of -- by declining to clarify Jackson's status for Saturday's contest with the Tigers.
"I don't talk about guys being suspended in the week. Just like if it's happened before and it's going to happen again, I'll address it after the game," Kiffin said.
The refusal to address the issue seemed to indicate that Jackson won't be available on Saturday, something that Monte Kiffin appeared to confirm by indicating that it had been a big week for safeties Darren Myles and Prentiss Wagner.
"They both practiced well this week. We'll see who we're going to start for sure," he said. "They've both been working hard. They've got to come through for us There's no doubt about it."
In other news, Lane Kiffin gave his team a 'mostly' clean bill of health. Gerald Williams remains a game-time decision and Daniel Lincoln will also have a final determination made on his status Saturday.
Chris Walker, who reinjured his back and was held out against South Carolina, has a chance to get into the game this week.
In Walker's absence, sophomore Willie Bohannon got his first career start against the Gamecocks, recording three tackles, including one for a loss.
Bohannon may be undersized for the position but more than makes up for it with his speed and work ethic according to Kiffin.
