Lindsy Little exploded off the ground, leaping straight up and meeting a ball that had floated over the net. The ball may have been moving in slow motion, but Little was not, striking it hard and rejecting it back across the net for another kill.
It was just another dominant moment in the Maryville College volleyball team's 25-12, 25-13, 25-13 sweep of Salem Friday in the Great South Athletic Conference semifinals inside MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium. The Scots (28-5) are now one win away from their first NCAA tournament since 2006. A victory in today's 1 p.m. conference title match against Piedmont or Huntingdon would secure the GSAC's automatic bid to the Division III championships.
A return trip to the national stage may be a foregone conclusion for a team that hasn't dropped a set in conference play all season. Maryville certainly looked the part Friday night, pounding nearly twice as many kills and less than half as many errors as the Spirits (11-19). Leading the way was Little, a Maryville high product, who had 12 kills without a single error thanks in large part to some stunning leaping ability.
