Announcements run each Sunday. Announcements should be e-mailed to sports@thedailytimes.com or faxed to The Daily Times at 865-981-1175. They may also be dropped off at the mail slot on the side of The Daily Times building or at the front desk during regular business hours. Notices must arrive by the Thursday before they are to run on Sunday.

Basketball

HoopItUp Basketball Academy announces plans for its upcoming winter basketball academies open to both boys and girls ages 6 and up. Space is limited so register your child today. These sessions are specifically designed for the young player who needs to develop their personal skills to prepare for their upcoming season in elementary, park & rec. Biddy league or Upward program. Sessions will run for 5 weeks and each session will be for 1 hour each. Session I began in October and Session II will begin in January. Golf

The 2009 William Blount Governor baseball golf outing will be Saturday at Royal Oaks Golf Course. Lunch and registration begins at 11 a.m. Golf starts at noon. Awards will be handed out at 5 p.m. Funds raised will be directed to the purchase of new uniforms and jackets for both the junior varsity and varsity baseball teams at William Blount High School. Entry fee is $75 per golfer and there are $5 mulligans. First place is a $200 pro shop credit per golfer, second is a $100 credit and third is a $75 credit. There are also awards for longest drive and closest to the pin as well as door prizes. Sponsorship opportunites are available for awards, holes and carts. Maryville junior golfers ages 12-18 are invited to compete in the Fifth Annual AJGT Kelly Love Showcase Classic at Indian Bayou Country Club in Destin, Fla., today. AJGA tournament exemptions are offered to Boys and Girls Champions and the two-day, 36-hole tournament is ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard. College coaches are invited to attend and results from the tournament are e-mailed to collegiate golf programs throughout the country. A coach's packet with player contact information is provided to all coaches in attendance. Beachside condos are available for $78 a night for a three-night stay, and $92 a night for a two-night stay. The Heritage High School baseball boosters will host a golf tournament Nov. 11 at Lambert Acres Golf Club. Entry fees are $50 per player for the four-person swat tournament, which will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. First place in the first flight will earn $400, and the second-place finisher will receive $200. Second-flight prizes include $200 for first place and $100 for second. The event also will include closest-to-the-hole and longest-drive contests, and a hole-in-one will be worth $10,000. Volleyball

The Foothills Juniors Volleyball Club will hold tryouts for the upcoming season today at Maryville Middle School. Only girls enrolled in Alcoa, Heritage, Maryville Christian, Maryville or William Blount high schools -- or a middle or intermediate school that serves as a "feeder" school for those high schools -- are eligible to try out and play. Tryouts for girls ages 14 and under (born Sept. 1, 1995, or later) and 15 and under (born between Sept. 1, 1994, and Aug. 31, 1995) are scheduled for 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Girls ages 16 and under (born between Sept. 1, 1993, and Aug. 31, 1994) and 17 and under (born between Sept. 1, 1992, and Aug. 31, 1993) will try out from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. There is a $100 tryout fee, of which $80 will be returned if the player does not make a team. Wrestling

The Maryville Middle School AAU wrestling team will include students in fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Practice for the middle-school team will begin Monday.
