Three hikers who got lost in Cades Cove in Great Smoky Mountains National Park Monday afternoon have been found unharmed, park spokesman Bob Miller said Monday night.
"These folks had gotten turned around at about 3:30 p.m.," he said. "They were hiking down Abrams Falls Trail."
The hikers stopped about halfway down the trail at a common resting point, veered off the path to explore and never found their way back, Miller said.
At about 6:45 p.m. Monday for some "miraculous reason" they were able to make a cell phone call to park rangers, Miller also said.
"Cades Cove is not known for its cell phone service," he said.
Park officials didn't have names of the hikers or information on where they are from Monday night. Miller said the rangers' focus was to find them and help them out.
