Three people were transported to the University of Tennessee's Medical Center Monday afternoon after a two-car accident on Alcoa Highway at International Drive.

The accident happened at about 3:45 p.m., near the Subway, 2580 Alcoa Highway, and slowed traffic for about 30 minutes, as Alcoa police and fire fighters removed the wreckage.

Alcoa Police Sgt. Phil Russell said on the scene that, according to witnesses, a Chevy Lumina was turning left on International Drive from Alcoa Highway and pulled out in front of a Lexus SUV, which was traveling north.

The driver of the Lexus only had about 20 feet to stop, which is about a half a second, Russell said.

The driver of the Lumina, the driver of the Lexus and a passenger in the Lexus were taken by Rural/Metro to the hospital.

The victims' names were not available Monday afternoon and their status was not known, but Russell said there were no life-threatening injuries.
