Strong perimeter shooting has been a staple of the Heritage High School girls basketball team’s success throughout its current streak of seven consecutive seasons with 24 wins or more.
Believe it or not, though, the Lady Mountaineers might let the 3-point shots fly this year more than ever before.

“I’ve got a feeling we will shoot a lot of 3s,” said Heritage coach Rick Howard, who enters his ninth season as head coach with 202 career victories. “We always do, but I’ve got some pretty good shooters.”
And not a lot of size.

After sophomore Miranda Maples’ offseason transfer to crosstown rival Maryville and the losses of established post players Katelyn Best and Lanie Brimer to graduation, the Lady Mountaineers have no player on this year’s roster taller than 5 feet 10 inches.

Senior Katerina Morris and junior Whitney Wolfe, both 5-foot-10 posts, will provide the inside presence in a starting lineup anchored by sharp-shooting senior guard Lauren Burnett.

Two other seniors will join Burnett and Morris in a surprisingly veteran lineup.

Tracy Hardiman will step in at point guard for Morgan Thomas, who’s now a freshman soccer player at East Tennessee State University. Kaitlyn Newsome will start alongside Burnett on the wing.
