Tropical Storm Ida caused flooding and road closures Wednesday morning in Blount County and strong winds are expected in the area through this morning.

A drainage tile in Carr's Creek Road in Townsend collapsed about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, stranding some residents who live north of the tile on the dead-end road.

The tile was installed after the flood of 1994, when Carr's Creek residents were stranded for several days while tiles that collapsed along the road were replaced.

Blount County Highway Department employees were busy Wednesday installing a temporary bypass around the collapsed tile so residents could get in and out. A road was cut around the tile on property owned by Donnie Tipton.

The plan is to replace the tile today, said Steve Sing of the Blount County Highway Department.

River Ford Road also flooded, Sing said.

"Water got up in one lane of the road, but it went down."

Highway Department crews cleared a rock slide on Old Walland Highway, and flooding also caused a problem on Helton Road near Centennial Church and Lem's Corner.
