Last year the young, inexperienced William Blount Governors made an early exit in the second round of the District 4-AAA Tournament.

Not much has changed in terms of the team's roster, but that's good news for coach David Baumann and the Govs.

William Blount returns all five starters from last season, including Micah Ballard, one of two players remaining in the entire district who earned All-District honors last year, the other being Lenior City standout Tyler Hood. Ballard led the Govs in points, rebounds and assists last year.

Despite last season's early exit, the Govs were able to finish with a winning record, something Baumann is proud of.

"At the end of last season, we were able to go into the off-season with confidence," he said. "We exceeded expectations by winning 15 games and we knew we would have most everybody back this year."

William Blount will make an appearance in the prep jamboree at Maryville on Monday and then open the season at Seymour on Nov. 17.
