The Maryville Rebels and Alcoa Tornadoes continued on the path to the high school football state championships with second-round TSSAA playoff wins on Friday night in Blount County.

Maryville (11-1) held off a determined McMinn County squad, 28-20, in a Class 6A contest that was nothing like the initial meeting in September that the Rebels won 49-6.

Another rematch looms on the horizon for Maryville, which will host Farragut, a 10-3 winner over Bearden in a second-round contest of District 4-AAA foes.

Alcoa (12-0) extended its unbeaten streak to 25 games by bashing Christian Academy of Knoxville, 31-10, in a rematch of the regular-season closer that saw the Tornadoes win the District 4-AA title.

Like Maryville, the Tornadoes will have yet another rematch next week in the third round of Class 3A action, hosting Loudon, a 24-13 winner over previously unbeaten Polk County.
