Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming up as the second quarter is already halfway gone. Yearbooks are on sale now at www.smart-pay.com, to be delivered near the end of the school year. Teachers and students alike are working on or beginning to study for final exams, but in the midst of all this, they found a break.
An "interesting" in-school performance by theatre classes included several skits written by the students themselves such as "Obsessed," "Two Heads Are Better Than One" and "A Very Dirty Trick" - all based around a Halloween theme, even with a few zombies. A week ago, students attended an optional in-school ceremony in honor of Veterans Day.
Key Club members assisted the Kiwanis Club in a pancake breakfast at Maryville High School on Saturday, donating one dollar from every ticket to Imagination Library, a program by Dolly Parton that donates books to elementary kids.
Heritage DECA is starting a contest called "Wanna Winna Wii" with a theme based off the "Survivor" reality TV show. The goal is to collect the most donations and that class will win prizes such as a Chick-fil-A platter, a Great American Cookie, and assorted snack/beverage awards. The winning teacher will win a Nintendo Wii game system for their class, dinner for two, and a night in a cabin at Sampson's Hollow. But most important of all is that all proceeds will be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and DECA's partnership with the Give Thanks/Thanksgiving campaign.
All in all, a good way to start finishing up the year.
