Long homicide case bound over to grand jury

The case of an area man charged with homicide has been bound over to a Blount County grand jury.
Jeffrey Scott Long, 47, was charged in connection with the death of his wife, Janas Long, 57, in September.
Long is being held in the Blount County Jail in lieu of $525,000 bond.
General Sessions Court officials said Tuesday a grand jury will likely decide in January whether to indict Long on the charges.
In a Monday court hearing in front of General Sessions Judge William Brewer, two witnesses -- Alcoa detective Kris Sanders and Knox County medical examiner Dr. Darinka Mileusnic-Polchan -- took the stand, one of Long's public defenders Matthew Elrod said today.
If the grand jury indicts Long, the case will go to Blount County Circuit Court for trial.
Janas Long was found surrounded by a pool of blood in her Louisville apartment on Cerritos Way on Sept. 10. She died a short time later of stab wounds, according to police.
She had filed an order of protection against her husband Aug. 1, alleging more than a decade of abuse. A hearing on the order was scheduled for Oct. 1.
