Two Maryville residents were injured in a single-car accident Saturday night that involved alcohol, according to a Blount County Sheriff's report.

Jacob R. Hicks, 23, Cunningham Avenue, was taken by Lifestar to the University of Tennessee's Medical Center Saturday at about 11 p.m., after being extricated from the car he was driving. Officials with UT's Medical Center said Hicks was treated and released.

The passenger, Joseph J. Bridenbaugh, 22, Stonehenge Drive, was taken by Rural/Metro ambulance service to Blount Memorial Hospital, but hospital officials said did not have information on his status.

According to the police report, officers on the scene observed Hicks and Bridenbaugh and determined that they both been drinking when Hicks lost control of the vehicle.

Blood tests were given, but the results are unknown, according to the report.

The accident occurred when Hicks' was negotiating curves in his 1996 Chevy pickup truck, traveling south on Montvale Road. He ran off the right side of the road, according to the police report.

"The driver then over-corrected, coming back into the roadway but began to slide sideways going off the left side of the roadway and hitting an embankment causing his truck to flip on its top then sliding on it's top back across the road," according to the police report.

The truck had "very severe" damage, according to the police report.
